6 Easy Tips To Finding The Perfect Bathtub

  Article By: Rob Barnes

With so many different types and styles of bathtubs available nowadays, choosing one which is perfect for you can get pretty confusing indeed. It is not simply settling on the proper color to match your bathroom color theme or picking a matching style, but several other choices have to be made before you can ensure that the bathtub is right for you. Thus, this article lists all the factors that need to be considered when choosing a bathtub so that you end up buying the ideal one.

1) Features and functionality: Before you go to choose a bathtub, you should be clear about your requirements from the bathtub. Do not buy a whirlpool tub just because it looks so comfortable and inviting. Will you actually be using the jets often and can you justify the added energy costs as well as extra water consumption While comfort is very important while choosing a bathtub, you also want to ensure that you will make use of all the features of the tub.

2) Bathtub size: Choosing a tub that is too small for you will mean that you cannot fit into it and will not be able to utilize it completely. On the other hand, picking one that is way too big will mean that you are increasing your water usage unnecessarily. So you see, it is essential that you buy a bathtub that is the right size for you, neither way too large nor way too small.

When you are considering the size of the tub, also determine whether you want a one person tub or two person tub. Some people buy a large tub thinking that the added room will allow for two people to bathe at the same time. However, that is not how it works. If you want to share your bath time with another person, go for a two person tub and not a large one person tub.

3) Aesthetic appeal: While not important to the function of the bathtub, the right color and style of the tub will make your bathroom look that much more inviting. Bathtubs are available in the standard colors of cream and white, but you can also get different colors such as blue, brown, maroon, green, and pink so as to match your dcor. Shapes in bathtubs include the standard rectangle, as well as others such as heart shaped, oval, round, corner style etc.

4) Construction material: It is important to look at the construction materials of bathtubs, as their strength, durability, and ease of maintenance depends on that. Some of the regular bathtub materials are Acrylic, Fiberglass, Porcelain tubs, Marble, Cast iron and Wood. If an economical tub is what you want, then a fiberglass tub is a good choice; but such a tub does not have very high durability. High durability can be achieved by buying cast iron bathtubs, but these can be very costly and are not that attractive. Thus, the tub material that you should eventually select will depend on your specific requirements and priorities from the tub.

5) Regular tubs or therapeutic: A bathtub is not just used for bathing but can also have immense therapeutic value. By filling a tub with hot water and soaking your entire body in it, you can lower high blood pressure, relieve stress, and get rid of muscular aches and pains. However, you need to ensure that your entire body is immersed in the tub and not just a portion of it. To do that, it is necessary to buy a soaking bathtub instead of a standard one as they are much deeper. Thus, depending on whether or not you want your tub to be therapeutic, you need to decide between a standard bathtub and a soaking one.

6) Special Requirements: People who are old or those who have some kind of handicap may often have to forgo the pleasures of bathing in a tub as they may find it difficult to use a regular bathtub. If you or someone in your family has such special needs, you should consider getting a bathtub that is ADA compliant. Such bathtubs are made in such a way so as to afford easy entry and exit for the handicapped and the elderly. They even have grab bars and grab rails for added protection while using the bathtub. Some models can even be used by people who are restricted to wheelchairs.

Thus, you should choose a bathtub only after taking all the above factors into consideration. Your budget will also determine your choice of tub, but there are bathtubs available in all different price ranges so finding one within your budget should not be a problem.

Hopefully, this guide will help you to choose a bathtub that is right for you and your family.
