Greener Motoring Article

  Article By: Domenic Stockebrand

The words 'environmentally friendly' and 'motorist' may seem like a total contradiction. Everyone knows that cars are ultimately very bad for the environment, but unfortunately they have become a rather indispensable part of modern society.

If you can't live without your car but you are concerned about the environment, there are several things that you can do to help make your car a little less damaging to planet earth.

If a new car is in the offing then you might like to consider one of the many new hybrid models. More and more of these highly technologically advanced vehicles are being released each month, and they have dramatically reduced in price since their initial appearance. What is more, you wills save a small fortune in petrol or diesel costs once you've made the initial purchase.

Go for a fuel efficient model with a small engine. Smaller cars are always more energy efficient, particularly when compared with large four track models which guzzle gallons of petrol without really covering any distance.

Even if you do own a car, you don't always have to use it. Sometimes it might still be more cost effective to use a form of public transport instead. If you want to get more exercise in your day to day life, too, then you might also consider cycling or walking to wherever it is you want to go.

Your car insurance could also form an investment in the protection of the environment, applying an environmental and ethical guarantee on all of their services, from personal banking to home, travel and car insurance.

For those with specifically environmental concerns, there are also several car insurance companies who are designed specifically to offset as much of their emissions as possible and who will put your money towards environmentally positive investments. A simple google search should bring up a whole range of environmentally friendly insurance possibilities.

Shop around and do your research thoroughly to find out more about becoming a more environmentally friendly driver.
