Hypnotherapy Memory Development: Concentration, Retention, Recall

Article By: Alan B. Densky, CH

I'd like you to meditate on this for a brief moment. As you sit there right now reading this document, a stream of information is coming in through your eyes. But you are also absorbing various sounds, experiencing physical feelings like the pressure of the seat touching your buttocks and back, the feeling of the clothing on your body, and the air temperature and movement on your skin. You are also in receipt of data through your nose in the form of smells. And of course, you're receiving information in the form of a variety of tastes on your lips and in your mouth.

And how about the emotional sensations that you are currently experiencing That's also information that you're processing at the moment. We exist in an information intensive world. Thanks to the Internet, almost no matter what a person could ever want to know is only a few clicks of the mouse away.

I recently read an item that said that even in a calm and peaceful atmosphere, we are bombarded by sixty thousand stimuli per second. And that is occurring sixty seconds out of each minute, and sixty minutes out of each hour. And it goes on twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week, week in and week out for our entire life.

And that's a big part of the problem. We are all suffering from "information overload." And that makes it very tricky to remember all of the information that we want to memorize or need to be able to recall.

Quite often, while we are reading, we find that our eyes have been traversing the sentences on the page, while our conscious mind has been off somewhere else on a tangent. When we get to the bottom of the page, we realize that our eyes have seen the words, but we have no conscious recall of what we have just read. That's because our mind has been somewhere else thinking about a problem, or working out a project.

Today it's an every day occurrence to hear even young people say things like, "I'm having a senior moment." No matter what your age, and whether you are a student, part of the work force, or a retired senior, you know what I'm talking about. In our frenzied world it is all too often extremely difficult to focus your concentration.

WHICH OF THE FOLLOWING IS YOUR PROBLEM

A. Your mind starts to meander as you study, and then suddenly you appreciate that you do not possess the slightest idea what you have read.

B. When you are in a social environment and new friends are introduced to you, you forget their names almost as quickly as you hear them.

C. You recall that you have a job to do in another room; however, as soon as you start towards the other room you totally forget what that errand is.

D. You can stay focused and understand new information. But when you take a test, "Test Anxiety" rears its ugly head and triggers a mental block, and you aren't able to remember the answers to the questions on the examination that you actually know.

The leading cause of a student's incapacity to focus their concentration is anxiety. And the leading cause of a mental block to recall is also anxiety. So it stands to reason that the more relaxed a person is, the better they will be able to focus their concentration, absorb information, and then be able to recall it at a later date.

Today, memory enhancement through hypnosis has become a popular topic. That's to some extent because hypnosis is a brilliant tool for triggering relaxation. In fact, the very fundamental nature of the hypnotic state is relaxation. And as the mind becomes tranquil, the capacity to stay focused increases. Similarly, a calm mind increases the capability to retain information, and recall it when it is needed.

Self-hypnosis memory improvement is a great modality for getting rid of test anxiety. There are several hypnotic techniques that can be used to program a student with the positive expectancy of relaxation, confidence, and success while taking examinations.

Anyone can take a course on how to apply hypnotherapy quickly and affordably in the privacy of their own home by purchasing hypnotherapy CD's. You can locate additional information on hypnotherapy to improve memory and recall in the Hypnosis Article Repository located on my website.
