The South Beach Weight Loss Plan And How It Works

Article By: Alan B. Densky, CH

The South Beach program is among the leading ways to lose weight today. It is styled around diet and exercise changes that bring healthy weight loss. By cutting out "bad" fats and carbohydrates and eating plenty of "good" ones, dieters can shed weight without feeling deprived or sacrificing their health.

There are three stages in the South Beach diet plan. During stage one, dieters avoid all carbohydrates except for vegetables. Although multiple foods are restricted, dieters still have a variety of foods they can eat. Stage one is the toughest stage, but also the quickest since it only takes fourteen days. Dieters can expect to lose 10 pounds during this period.

In the second phase, dieters begin reintroducing the previously restricted carbohydrate-rich foods into their diet. Dieters are expected to lose 1 to 2 pounds each week while steadily increasing the volume of carbohydrates they eat. Phase two lasts until dieters achieve their goal weight.

Phase three is the maintenance stage. Dieters take the strategies from the second phase to keep their goal weight throughout the duration of their lives. If dieters begin to regain weight, they can revert back to the first phase of the diet.

It is likely that you've seen ready-made South Beach meals and snacks sold in stores. These foods are very handy, but you do not need to buy them in order to be on the diet. You just need to commit to the different general rules for each stage of the program.

During stage one of the diet, you are permitted to have lean cuts of meat, such as turkey, chicken, and fish, eggs, most vegetables, nuts, and a limited amount of low-fat dairy products. Fruits and their juices are not consumed during this stage because of their sugar content. Also restricted are all carbohydrates, fatty meats, alcoholic beverages, and a few vegetables that are rather high in sugar or carbohydrate content, such as corn. The function of this stage is to cut "bad" carbohydrates from your diet and start the weight loss process.

During phase two, dieters gradually reintroduce whole grains, fruit, and other formerly prohibited foods into their diet. In the process, dieters discover how to adjust their diet strategies to keep a desirable weight. Once this is successfully completed, the diet transitions into the maintenance stage, in which dieters attempt to maintain the healthy habits that helped them reach their goal weight.

The key to success with the South Beach diet plan is dedication to eating healthy. Although that sounds easy, this diet and other diets stop working because dieters give up before the plan can take effect. The problems that most dieters have with losing weight often come from deep-rooted issues such as a lack of motivation, a tendency to binge on food, or out-of-control appetite. Fortunately, all of these issues are treatable with techniques that are easy to learn from an excellent hypnotherapy diet CD program.

To treat a lack of motivation, practices from a tool called Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) will help give you a powerful desire to stick to your weight loss program.

First, dieters pinpoint exactly what it is that is most valuable to them, as a person. This is called their "highly valued criteria." Then, NLP techniques are practiced to make the dieters think that by losing weight, their highly valued criteria will become enhanced. An alternative is to make the dieter think that if they do not lose weight, their valued criteria will be placed in jeopardy.

Motivation comes from what we believe in, not from logic! So in the previous case, let's say that the dieter's most valued desire is that the dieter's children are safe and happy. Using an NLP tool called Submodalities, we can steer the dieter into feeling that if he or she fails to lose weight, the children will be condemned to emulating their parent and they will also be overweight and dissatisfied. This idea will give a strong desire and feeling to stick to a diet and get the weight off.

Several NLP techniques can help to reduce or even entirely remove the urges and cravings that cause one to overeat. This works very well to help dieters stay on the first and most difficult days of the South Beach diet. Additionally, it helps dieters stick to a fitness program, which will enhance the efficacy of any diet plan.

Stress is an issue that frequently drives people to eat too much or neglect their health, but relief can be offered by both NLP and hypnotic techniques. One such tool is called the NLP Flash. With the Flash technique, having your unconscious mind use stressful thoughts to prompt you to have calming thoughts eliminates the stress that triggers the desire to eat too much.

Out-of-control appetites can also cause people to pack on pounds. A lot of people have seemingly out-of-control appetites because over time, they have developed a "conditioned response" to eat under certain circumstances. For example, many of us snack on junk food in front of the TV even when we are not truly even hungry. The good thing is, hypnosis and NLP possess techniques that can rapidly eliminate these conditioned responses. These techniques create appetite suppression without the use of drugs.

By treating the underlying issues that prevent dieters from shedding weight, hypnosis and NLP has helped countless dieters finally get in the best shape of their lives. When used with the South Beach diet, dieters can experience natural weight loss and success at achieving their fitness goals.
