  Article By: Bizymoms.com Management

In today's job market its essential to hold a degree and set an example for employers who are emphasizing the importance of a solid educational background. Considering the highly competitive environment, it is no longer possible for an individual to improve career prospects without a higher degree.

This can be a particularly true for women. A survey study conducted at the dawn of the new millennium, for men and women, who graduated high school only, suggested that the salary differential was nearly 50% most of the time. However, this inconsistent salary level converged towards a common figure as qualifications attained increased. For example, it was identified that an associate degree raises women's income by 65 percent over their earnings with only a high school diploma. Therefore it is needless to say that any type of academic or professional qualification would enhance the chance for a woman to be whoever she wants to be.

Women reading this article, who have the ability to attend a college and earn a university degree, should be over the moon now, but what about the others Is the future totally dark for those women who do not have the option of attending college

Over the years, for many moms, working full time and earning a degree concurrently was an impossible target. Ask any working mother for a testimony, they will elaborate to you how difficult it is to schedule even one full day per week to devote totally to something other than work or children. This is even more difficult for single parents who have financial constraints that prevent them from embarking on traditional campus degrees. It was in this sort of a situation where online degree programs first appeared in the field of education along with the popularity of in the internet in late 90s. From the inception it has been subject to phenomenal growth and today it stands as one of the most sought after methods of learning. In fact it is the flexibility and affordability of online degrees which makes it ideal for working mothers who cannot conform to the rigid timetable of a traditional course.

Anyone working toward a degree through distance learning is expecting the degree to fit into his or her schedule but not vice versa. In fact, online degrees facilitate students to have their own schedule and establish their own goals, and determine the pace of achieving them.

Another very important aspect of online education is that it was developed by focusing on the adult learner. In fact the adult learners generally want to see how the things you learn are applied or could be applied in their organizations. Therefore a successful online student will develop skills for direct application in the workplace, learning to set targets, develop strategies to meet them, analyze potential problems and formulate and implement controls.

For example lets take Carlyn Blake. During her online degree, she started using the knowledge then and there, in solving real life scenarios at her department. "Whatever I would learn in the classroom one night, I began applying in the workplace the very next day," she adds. It certainly paid off for Carlyn as she was promoted within a short period of time when her department started relying solely on her to drive innovation.

Initially online degrees were perceived with suspicion by employers. It took some time for people to understand the concept of virtual learning. However, later they realized that in general the quality of education is not compromised. Further, they began to understand that many people obtain a degree amidst a whole host of challenges within their professional career as well as the personal life. Employers now view online graduates as people who work well under pressure and who possess excellent time management skills. This shift in perception grew and today online degrees are highly valued and rewarded in the employment market.

As I conclude I would like to say that I cannot imagine a better solution than online education for working moms. Today you find degrees in a wide range of areas unheard of a few years back. You have the ability to choose your preferred area and study while you are working. Spending on education after all is a highly rewarding investment. So do not hesitate, absolutely go for it.
