  Article By: Kris Koonar

Business is a lucrative source of earning that is much in demand. It has good scope and an equally vast horizon. Every newcomer in business either follows in the footsteps of his predecessors or tags along a godfather, who guides and supports him. A trustworthy and experienced person is an asset. Someone the businessman can rely on and turn to for help. This coach should posses the necessary skills to motivate his student, communicate effectively the merits and demerits and be a part of a relationship that would make a businessman qualities surface.

In view of the current needs of the business world, business coaching is a fairly new concept that has been incorporated. It involves a professional training designed specifically for corporate executives. It helps them in adjusting to the behavioural and psychological changes that surface on a personal basis and their working style. This helps them to enhance their managerial skills and techniques. Business coaching mainly involves observing the reaction to the executive behaviour by others, creating a definite rapport with subordinates and creating awareness amongst the employees. There are a few categories in business coaching and they have been mentioned below:

Coaching for Skills:

This is the very first level of coaching that is imparted to the executives. It enables them to identify their skills, providing them with a multi-dimensional perspective of their management techniques. This preliminary level equips them to handle the various possible situations they would encounter in the course of running the business. It initiates self-analysis and highlights their personal skills that will prove profitable to the business eventually.

Coaching for Development:

This level of business coaching deals with the enhancement of the existing qualities of the employee and inculcating competent new facets as well. It involves grooming virtues such as listening, communicating, planning, managing time, being open to suggestions and being a self-critic. It focuses on restructuring the individual job profile, know-how as well as his overall personality development.

Coaching for Performance:

The performance an executive not only depends on his capability of achieving goals and targets but also on the feedback of his team members. Being familiar with all aspects of the job is not sufficient for success. An executive should ideally acknowledge the presence of every colleague, be it a subordinate or a superior. This session infuses team spirit and boosts collective work effort.

Executive Coaching

Business coaching is also formulated for the top-level management employees. They need to know how to become more approachable, so that their staff and subordinates are at ease. This also strengthens their loyalty quotient. The higher the post, the greater is the magnitude of responsibility. This makes it necessary for them to be mentally and emotionally capable of handling the pressures and the delivering results.

Transformational Coaching:

This aspect of business coaching deals with the intimate side of the character of a person and attempts to remove any traits that might obstruct progress. It is a methodical study and equipped to be attentive to behavioural prototypes.
