Ways to monetize your website or blog

August 26th, 2007 · 1 Comment

Needless to say, the internet is playing a major role in marketing on a global basis and is arguably the fastest growing sector of technology on planet earth. And, we all have friends, neighbors and acquaintences who are earning decent incomes online by owning a website and promoting various goods and services. While, on the surface, being a webmaster may be “easy” with a little knowledge of HTML and PHP, there is much more to making money than creating an attractive website full of eye candy for would-be consumers. Increasing a website’s market share and obtaining and perpetuating quality traffic is the key to enjoying a growing income online.

All this to say, in addition to having a killer site that is full of wonderful product, there are other methods for generating additional cash from one’s site. The concept, as you well know, is called “monetization.” Other than the standard ways that people are deriving additional earnings from their sites, what are some of the other creative ways you have monetized your site? I am using adsense along with some affiliate links and that is working ok, but I am looking for something more. I have considered offerring a “service” of some sort, but I am coming up short. Any ideas?

Actually, I have been thinking about the same thing. Other than adding a tangible product of some sort (t-shirts, coffee mugs, pens w/ logos, etc…), I think the key is adding a service of some type that is fee-based. For instance, you could offer to set up a newb’s blog or article site for a small fee. Anyone familiar with some of the software packages, such as Article Dashboard and Wordpress, could make a killing doing this. I have seen Jodi’s AD site and she has a couple other ventures related to auxillary software packages which makes things a bit easier for people to handle submissions and the like. Suppose that if someone were to get a script and then modify it for a particular purpose in an area where there is a real need, it could generate some cash. Anyone else?…as I seem to be rambling.
